How the marking is made

The marking is a combination of a letter or several letters on the front and a number at the end.

The type is determined by the letter in front:

  • E - Threaded-type plinth (sometimes also called an Edison screw);
  • G - Pin-type plinth;
  • R - Plinth that has recessed contacts;
  • B - Pin-type plinth;
  • S - Soffit type plinth;
  • P - Plinth of focusing type;
  • T - Base of telephone type;
  • K - Cable base;
  • W - Base-less lamp.

Also after these letters, information may be given about the subtype of lamp that is used:

  • U - Bulb that operates in energy-saving mode;
  • V - Base that has a tapered end;
  • A - Automotive lamp.

The letters are followed by numbers that indicate (in mm) the diameter of the base or the distance between its contacts. If after you see another letter, it is the number of contacts (s means 1, d means 2, t means 3, q means 4, p means 5).

The marking of this group is quite simple. It includes the letter "E" and the designation of the body diameter. For better compatibility, you can often find special adapters that make the work much easier. The most popular among the bases of this type are Е10, Е14, Е27, Е40. This subtype is used for both incandescent, energy-saving and LED lamps. The most popular is the classic Е27 и Е14. The largest type is used for lighting large areas - streets, parks, industrial buildings.

G pin base

Designs of this type use pins, and there are no threads. They are used in small halogen bulbs, as well as built-in and spotlights. G13 socket

Applicable for the installation of standard T8 fluorescent lamps, with a bulb diameter up to 26 mm. Their gas discharge subspecies is more economical with a comparatively large illuminated area and is clearly more durable than similar incandescent lamps. Typically used for indoor applications.

R50 base
