Modern switching equipment household plan - modular. That is, all elements - circuit breakers, switches, RCDS and so on are assembled from modules. All these modules have the same width and the same dimensions.
What is a DIN rail
The big advantage of this type of equipment is the fact that its mounting is simplified compared to the older types of this type of equipment. Everything that was used for mounting in the past, today is no longer needed. Modular equipment is mounted on a din rail (a bar made of metal). It's convenient for the person who installs it and safe even for the layman, not just for the professional electrician.
What does the name DIN mean? It is an acronym that stands for Deutsches Institut für NormungThis is an abbreviation that stands for "German Institute for Standardization" in Russian. This mark is not only used to mark the mounting rails. It is used for other fastening devices, as well as for marking some connectors.
Din rail - it is a convenient, practical, reliable, durable device. At the same time its price is quite low.
Since all modules have the same width, you can use the same fastening devices to mount them.
Thanks to the invention of the din rail, it is now possible to equip the panel room inside with completely different, modern, new equipment.
The old shields, which were fastened with screws, nuts, bolts, and so on, were just a a counter and two plugs. Today, such a device is considered, firstly, outdated and primitive, and, secondly, dangerous.
A modern electrical switchboard takes up much less space. And it has quite a rich stuffing: a protective busbar, a neutral busbar, an operating busbar, at least 10 circuit breakers and other components. At the same time to assemble all the elements of such a device is quite simple, no more difficult than to assemble a child's construction set.
Such panel does not cause discomfort to the occupants of the house, it does not interfere, does not spoil the appearance of the interior.
Types of din rails
What is a din rail? This is a reliable attachment for modular electrical equipment. Previously, in order to fix circuit breakers and electric meters of the old type, masters had to do a lot of work - to drill holes, cut threads on these holes and so on. To fix devices, you had to use nuts, screws, washers, bolts and other elements for fastening. Not only was this quite inconvenient, but it was also unsafe. For example, if some screw fell out inside the panel, it could cause a short circuit.
Today, there is no need to use washers, screws, nuts and other things to fix modular electrical equipment. Instead, you use din-rail mounting, which is a strip of metal. Rails can be made of different metal - steel, aluminum. They look like a complex profile of metal. Such a fastening element can be perforated or solid. To make it easier to separate such rails, some of them are notched. Simply put, in appearance these fasteners are very similar to the railroad tracks, so they are often called din-rails.
Divided into types din rail by size, shape, strength, current strength, weight.
Types of din rails:
- Ω-type rail. Its height is 7.5 millimeters. Width - 35 millimeters. In profile, this type of rail resembles a letter Ω, hence the name. This type of din-rail is the most common. Such fasteners are used for floor and hinged shields.
- The din rail type "C". It differs in that its edges, if you look at it in profile, curved inward, rather than outward, as in the previous type.
- Din rail type "G" is similar to the previous one in its shape. Mounted on a din-rail, which requires a fastening element with similar parameters.

In addition, such rails may differ from each other in color and length. According to the standard, the length of the rail is two meters. But on sale, most often you can find slats with a length of 200 millimeters. Stores sell them in this form, because it is convenient for buyers.
The most important thing is to choose the right rail, which is suitable in your particular case.
What can be mounted on a din rail
Mounting din rail is designed in order to mount it to the following devices:
- Relays;
- Protection devices;
- Terminals;
- Electric meters;
- Lighting relays;
- Zero Bars;
- Voltage Relays;
- Controls (buttons.);
- Phase control relays;
- Signal devices (bulbs);
- Power relays.
Din-rail for mounting automatic machines and other modular equipment has ledges on the edges, it is due to them it holds the equipment that is installed on it. At the same time, the apparatus can freely move along such a din-rail. If there is a need to limit the movement of equipment, for such a purpose on the rail are set stoppers that do not let her move. They are placed on the sides.
Often holes are made in the lid of the shields for fixation, which correspond to the installed equipment. Some of the holes are closed with curtains that can be easily removed, and some are not fully possible to open. On some modular appliances are installed latches to securely attach them to the rail. To fasten the appliance, it is enough to press the latch until it clicks into place. To detach the item, you need to use a flat-head screwdriver to pull down such a latch.
It is easy enough to ensure that the hardware is properly attached to the rail. To do this, it is enough to find on the Internet and watch carefully a video with a master class, where professionals teach how to do it easier and simpler.
