Description and technical characteristics of the wire PVS

PVS wire is used to connect household appliances, as well as for equipping electrical networks in homes. These features have made it one of the most popular products on the market of cable technologies. Many people confuse this conductor with the PVSP cable, which is similar in structure, but with a parallel arrangement of the conductors. It is necessary to consider the main issues that will help to understand the technical features and classification of the cable, as well as to learn the deciphering of the marking applied to the general insulation.

Description and specifications of wire PVS

Description and deciphering

PVS cable is a flexible wire, which is used for connecting appliances that consume low power. PVS wires consist of copper wires. The maximum allowable voltage is 660 V. This wire is used to connect outlets and laying of lighting systems indoors.

PVS wire, the purpose of which is quite extensive, has the following letter symbols:

  • "P" - denotes belonging to the wires that are used for the distribution of electricity;
  • "B" - polyvinyl chloride is used as insulation;
  • "C" - designed for the connection of electrical networks and devices.

The flexibility of the cable greatly facilitates the laying process. The bending radius should be at least 4 cm. The service life of the cable can reach 10 years. Subject to compliance with all installation standards, PVS wires used as electrical wiring can last for 5 thousand hours.

Construction

PVS cable consists of stranded wires. It may be tinned. In this case, the product is marked with the letter "l". The symbol "t" is used to indicate a reinforced conductor.

Description and technical characteristics of wire PVS

Each copper core is insulated with a PVC coating. In total, the structure of the wire may include no more than five wires. In some types of five-core cable, twisting around a dielectric core is allowed.

Polyvinylchloride plasticate is used for the outer insulation of the conductor, which is applied with filling the voids between the cores. This gives PVS wires a round shape. The outer sheath is easy to cut, so it can be removed without risk of damaging the strands.

Labeling

The color designation of the core sheath and outer insulation is made in accordance with accepted standards:

  • the overall sheath is always white, it is allowed to apply two bands of a different color, which are located parallel to each other;
  • the neutral circuit is marked in blue;
  • conductors can be gray, brown, yellow, black or red;
  • yellow-green or green is used to indicate the grounding circuit.

PVS cable (decoding of additional letters):

  • "l" - tinned copper wire;
  • capital "T" - tropical version of the cable;
  • "B" - armored jacket;
  • "PS" - use of self-extinguishing compound in insulation;
  • "D" - wire without insulation (bare);
  • "SW" - the outer casing has a flat shape;
  • "PV" - the use of vulcanized rubber;
  • The first digit after the letters denotes the number of wires;
  • The second digit - the cross-sectional area.

Characteristics

GOST 7399-97 regulates the technical properties of different cable grades, but it should be remembered that it defines only the range of values. That is, the actual parameters can be set by each manufacturer independently. To find out the exact information, such as the diameter or size of the purchased conductor, it is necessary to study the accompanying documentation.

PVS cable specifications:

  1. The operating ambient temperature range is -25...+40°С. If the symbol "Y" is present in the marking, the negative temperature can reach -40°С. Maximum core heating during operation - not more than +70°С;
  2. At single masonry does not spread combustion.
  3. Maximum humidity of air - 98%.
  4. As an electrical wiring in the room working life is 5 thousand hours, when used in electrical equipment - 12 thousand hours.
  5. Minimum bending radius is 4 cm (if the cross-section is not more than 1 mm²), with a larger diameter - 6 cm.
  6. Resistance to alternating strain - 30 thousand cycles.
  7. PVS wire with technical characteristics that allow operation in tropical conditions (marking "T"), resistant to mold and mildew.
  8. Line voltage is 380-660 V.
  9. The warranty period is counted from the date of commissioning the conductor, is 2 years.

The standard modification of the cable is capable of withstanding an AC voltage of 2 kW for 5 minutes. If it is immersed in water for 1 hour, the test time should increase to 15 minutes. The tensile strength of the wire reaches 10 N/mm², and its length can be increased by 1.5 times.

The cable is sold in coils or drums. Standard length of the section varies from 30 to 200 m.

Scope of application and features of PVS

The scope of PVS wire depends on the number of conductors and the material used in them. The conductor with copper conductors is more in demand. It is suitable for the arrangement of electrical networks of both industrial and residential premises. With the help of a conductor with a thick cross-section, it is possible to carry out the electrification of a settlement, connect a power installation or replace the wires in a transformer.

PVS wire with copper conductors has the following advantages:

  • high level of elasticity and strength;
  • do not corrode;
  • reliable operation with rheostats and insulators;
  • copper has the best thermal expansion parameters.

The cable is capable of withstanding high mechanical and electrical loads. However, all available factors must be considered to ensure quality and safe use.
