Description and Technical Characteristics of ABB SHV Power Cable

Due to its high technical characteristics and design features, reliability and long operating time cable AVBBSHV became one of the most popular power conductors. It is used for connection of stationary installations and transformers.

Construction and specifications of ABBSSHV cable

The basis of any conductive element of electricity is a metal core, and cable power cable AVBBSHV is no exception. The first letter "A" in the wire marking indicates that its basis is a conductive core made of aluminum. The main advantages of such cable products are low cost and low weight.

The conductors may be single or multiwire, and their shape can be round or sectoral.

If a conductor design provides for several conductors (from 1 to 3), all of them will have the same cross-section. A four-core cable contains a null core, which has a smaller cross-section than the others.

In order to prevent short circuits between the cores, a special PVC sheath is provided in the conductor design. The sheath resistance can vary from 7 to 10 Mohm/km, depending on the wire cross-section.

The color of the insulating sheath has the following values:

  • grounding - yellow-green;
  • Zero - blue;
  • The main cores may be colored in other colors.

In some cases, the sheaths may have coding values (numbers from zero and higher).

All cores are placed close to each other, and the free space between them is filled with PVC plastic compound. If the power cable has a small cross section, the filling is not used.

Interlacing of the cores is protected by two PET tape. On top of it all is wrapped with steel tape, which serves as armor, reliably protecting the product from mechanical external influences. It should be clarified that this tape does not save against stretching. Some types of power conductors use a bitumen layer instead of steel tape.

The outer sheath is made of PVC plastic. Such a solution protects the wire from fire during single laying.

AVBBSHV cable technical specifications:

  • allows the heating of the conductors up to +70 ° C;
  • short circuit occurs when a conductor is heated up to +160 °С;
  • operating ambient temperature range -50...+50°С;
  • minimum ambient air temperature, at which the installation is allowed -15 ° C;
  • guarantee - 5 years;
  • operating life (service life) - 30 years;
  • voltage - 660/1000 V;
  • functioning in emergency mode - 8 hours a day and 1000 hours during the entire period of operation;
  • frequency - 50 Hz.

How to decipher the marking

On the outer insulation, each manufacturer applies product markings. A special printer or hot stamping method can be used for this purpose. Decoding of the marking is standard, in accordance with GOST.

Explanation of the cable AVBBSHV:

  • "A" - the core is made of aluminum;
  • "C" - polyvinyl chloride insulation is used;
  • "B" - armoring with steel bands;
  • "b" - no protective cushion between cores and armor;
  • "Schw" - outer sheath made of PVC hose.

The description that follows the letters is deciphered as the number and size of the cross section of the conductors. For example, 3x35 refers to the presence of three conductors, each of which has a cross section of 25 mm². An additional value is allowed: 3x25 + 1x16. This means that the conductor uses 3 main wires and 1 neutral circuit with a cross section of 16 mm².

Operating conditions

Technical characteristics of AVBBSHV cable are designed for its aboveground and underground operation. Due to the presence of armor wire is able to resist the pressure from the ground. But it is true only on condition of low corrosive activity of the latter. Also during installation, it is worth bearing in mind that the cable is susceptible to tensile forces.

The cable is also actively used in tunnels, mines and other premises. It is allowed to use the cable in open areas. The line of laying should be stationary with a vertical, sloping or horizontal arrangement. Moisture levels should not exceed 90%, and temperature operating parameters are indicated in the cable specifications.

Bend radius:

  • 10 diameters at single-core wire;
  • 7.5 diameter for multicore versions.

Cable length during construction can be 350-450 m, depending on the cross section of the veins.

Field of application

Field of application AVBBSHV is aimed at construction of electric mains (with voltage up to 10 kV) in civil and industrial construction, designed to connect stationary plants.

AVBBSHV-cable has the main characteristics that allow to carry out the installation in the following conditions:

  • at an altitude not exceeding 4000 m;
  • at sites where periodic flooding is possible;
  • underground;
  • in tunnels;
  • inside various types of premises;
  • at fire and explosion hazardous objects;
  • on the poles of power lines.

The presence of steel tape layer, as well as several layers of PVC insulation of different densities, has significantly expanded the field of application of the cable. Power conductor with additional protection of bitumen layer is used for arrangement of power transmission lines.

This conductor can be used in the private sector. Especially it will be appropriate for the arrangement of outbuildings and underground utilities.

Aluminum cable manufacturer does not recommend its use for laying electrical wiring in the house, but this is not a ban on its use for this purpose. It's all about the low price. The copper counterpart can cost up to 4 times more, while the technical and operational parameters of both options are virtually identical.
