Electric convector - a device that is designed to maintain the temperature in the living room at the right level. With its help it will be able to relieve the load from the standard heating system or completely replace it. It is convenient when heating country houses and summer houses. Before you choose an electric convector for dacha, you need to determine which of the devices will warm the air in the rooms faster and more effectively.

Principle of operation and structure of the convector
To understand what a convector is, you need to understand how it is arranged and on what principle it works. The functionality of the device is related to the process of convection, it allows the air to rise to the ceiling, after it warms up and loses its density. The heater has a simple design and consists of:
- of the body;
- Heating elements.
The heating element is a conductor that is installed in a metal casing. It looks like a simple radiator-heater and is located at the bottom of the unit. When cold air enters, it heats up. It then rises and exits through the outlets, which are made at a slight incline. Going up to the ceiling, the warm air gradually cools and goes down. Such heating with electric convectors allows you to warm the room evenly.
Types of convectors
There are many types of convectors, which are divided into several groups: the type of installation, the principle of heating and air circulation. Therefore, the choice of convector is made according to its technical characteristics. Types of devices:
- The heater can be with both natural and forced air circulation.
- They come with an electric, water or gas heating method. Electric convectors for heating are also subdivided into infrared models.
- According to the method of attachment - floor, wall-mounted.
Wall-mounted
The wall heater has a compact size. It can be horizontal, vertical or ceiling mounted. The devices are available with or without a built-in thermostat. By appearance heaters can be panel, film or have a form of tubular lamps. According to the method of heating are divided into infrared (thermal radiation) and convection (air circulation) models. Design features:
- Wall-mounted models are equipped with a flat box body. The thickness of the case is small, but corresponds to the height of the device and the principle of operation is similar to a vertical tube, the inlet and outlet of which has a temperature difference. Because of this, an increased air draft is created. Due to this shape of the enclosure and the enclosed space, the air flows into the heater, thereby ensuring rapid heating.
- There are small slots on the bottom end of the enclosure for the cooling air to enter.
- In the lower part of the device there is one or more heating elements, which come in the form of cast modules or a separate coil. The elements are switched on simultaneously or one by one. The way of starting depends on the selected mode.
- In the upper part of the case there are openings in the form of shutters. Through them, the hot air comes out. The shutter models can be movable or stationary. With movable elements, you can adjust the air flow in any direction.
Regardless of the type of wall convector, the installation is made on brackets. Such a possibility appears due to the light weight. Sometimes the device is equipped with additional legs.
Floor
Floor electric convectors for heating are installed on wheels, as they have no other rigid attachment. The device has a beautiful appearance, high efficiency, works quietly. Some models can be additionally equipped with a towel warmer and a humidifier. This model is convenient because it can be moved anywhere. Disadvantage: limitation on the length of the wire.
One of the varieties of floor structures - devices, embedded in special niches, which are made in the floor. From above, the heater is covered with decorative grilles. Through these devices, cold air enters, is heated and comes back out. Heating devices of this design are designed for use in rooms:
- with a small area;
- In doorways between rooms (to create heat curtains);
- in children's rooms;
- in rooms with panoramic windows.
All floor units are compact in size. This allows you to not make a big alcove in the floor. Under the panoramic windows of great length produce long convectors. They have an increased power and are expensive. Mount the heater under the window so that the capture of cold air occurs at the window side.
Calculate the necessary power
Power - the main indicator to consider when choosing a device. The level of heat produced by the convector depends on it. Calculation of the required power:
- To heat a room of 10 to 12 square meters with a wall height of 2.7 m, you need 1 kW, provided that there are no other heating systems in the building.
- If a convector is installed in the building and there is another heating system, the device can heat a room area of up to 24 square meters.
The largest size devices have the highest power. The larger the device, the stronger the power.
In addition to size, the heat output of the device depends on the built-in heating element. In order to warm up the room properly, when choosing the power also take into account how many windows are installed in the room and where it is located (corner or above the basement). If the convector is installed in the kitchen, then a unit with low power is enough. But to heat the bedroom with such a heater will take a long time. Therefore, a more powerful device is used.
Ways to adjust the temperature
Most electric convectors for heating are equipped with a mechanical or electronic control unit. With their help, it will be possible to control the level of heating of the room, which allows you to save energy. Also, the devices are equipped with a control sensor and an activation timer.
The first automatically turns the system on and off when the temperature indicator reaches the desired value. After cooling, the device turns on independently or manually. This depends on the model installed.
With the on timer, the unit can be programmed. This is convenient when the room temperature needs to be reduced during the day and increased at night.
Electronic thermostat and control unit allows you to set an automatic temperature mode, and in mechanical models it is set manually. There are models with remote control. Convector operation is regulated remotely using the remote control. Mobile devices have protection against overturning. If the convector accidentally turns over, the protection will be triggered and it will turn off. The set temperature and the set mode are shown on the display.
Rating of electric convectors for heating
According to the parameters and performance features, the rating of the best electric convector was made. This included models from popular manufacturers, such as Electrolux, Scoole, etc. The most in demand:
- Timberk TEC PS1 LE 1500. This is the best convector of good quality, which has high technical characteristics. The device is equipped with wheels, has 2 heating modes, on/off timer, electronic type thermostat and air ionizer. It is possible to connect additional accessories. The characteristic clicking sound that is made during the switching on and off of the device is its only disadvantage. The model is manufactured in Europe and Asia by a popular holding company and has an affordable price.
- Ballu ENZO BEC/EZMR 2000. The convector is equipped with an electronic thermostat, has two modes of heat output, protection against overturning and overheating. Designed for heating large rooms up to 25 sq. m. There is a possibility to program modes, it is equipped with a timer of switching-off. On the control unit is installed illumination. The device is mounted on the wall with the fasteners that are included in the kit or installed on wheels. It is a reasonable price-performance ratio. Disadvantages: short cord and weak wheels. The thermostat is produced by Russian manufacturers.
- Scoole SC HT HM1 1000BT. A compact, but quite powerful electric convector that can quickly heat a medium-sized room. This is a portable model with a high and powerful heating rate, has a beautiful appearance and bright coloring. The thermostat of the mechanical type is characterized by high accuracy of adjustment. Uses a lot of energy, so it is considered unprofitable. Production: Norway.
- Noirot Spot E-3 1000. This is a wall convector with high efficiency. It has a beautiful appearance, protection against overheating and many other functions. Due to the large memory capacity, the system settings can be easily restored, which is convenient in case of problems with electricity. Disadvantages: short cord and inconvenient mode switch. The price varies in the middle range. The country of the manufacturer is France.
- Electrolux ECH/AG-1500EF. The device has an increased efficiency and reaches the operating temperature in 80 seconds. Designed for heating medium sized rooms. It is a budget model that does not dry out the air in the room and is equipped with a system of protective screens. The simple design is the only disadvantage. Production: Switzerland.
Convector which company to choose, depends on the size of the heated area and your own preferences.
