Design features

Structurally, all 201 series electric meters are made in a plastic enclosure of the same type and rectangular shape. Based on the model range, they can be electromechanical or electronic. In the first case, the counting system is a drum, in the second - an LCD display. Both the drum and the display are located on the front panel on the left, and on the right there is a table with technical specifications. If you are guided by the price, the cost of the meter is most affordable in the set with a drum counting device. Such devices are simple in design, they have the smallest pulse transmission number per kWh - 3200, sensitivity values are 10, 20 or 40 mA, power consumption - 2 W. In addition to the acceptable cost, the device is in demand for its reliability, resistance to overloads and long service life.

Among the devices of this series the most popular models are electricity meters Mercury 201 5 and 201 7, which differ from each other only in dimensions and weight. The dimensions of the meters of the first model are 65x105x105 mm, the dimensions of the second model are 66x77x91 mm. The difference in weight is 100 g (350 vs. 250). If the difference in weight is not so significant, then the dimensions are important for proper selection of the electric panel and ease of installation. The advantage of the Mercury 201 7 is that it does not take 6, but only 4.5 modules. This saves space in the switchboard, does not require additional cutouts and is aesthetically pleasing.

The electricity meter can be equipped with a remote control (RC). For this purpose, a programmable module is installed inside the device that responds only to the reception of remote control signals. After the microcontroller is installed, pressing the remote control button interrupts the meter reading, while the electricity is supplied to the room, and the indicator continues to signal that the device is working normally. There is no sign of external interference with the operation of the devices.

To select the economical option of operation, you need to turn the remote control into an undercounter mode. It is desirable to pay attention to the number of blinks of the indicator when the counter switches. They should be from 3 to 30. The device works normally if the counting mechanism has remained in place for 2 and 3 flashes of the indicator.

The microcontroller is tuned to a frequency of 315 mHz, which allows it to work without failure.

When the economy function is disabled, the meter functions in the factory mode.

The device is accompanied by a detailed manual, which should be studied, along with the passport and wiring diagram. The main thing is the correct connection of phases and attention when connecting the wires (their markings are highlighted in different colors).

Before you connect Mercury 201, it is necessary to de-energize the system: turn off the circuit breaker, breaker, power line. Special cells with perforated grooves are provided on the terminal cover for safe laying of wires. In these places, the cells are broken out, and through the holes the wire is entered.

There are four positions for connecting the wire:

  1. The supplying phase from the input circuit breaker.
  2. The phase load to supply the room.
  3. The neutral wire from the input circuit breaker.
  4. Zero wire of the load to supply the room.

Wires are connected only in this sequence. Remember that the phase wire is white and the neutral wire is blue.

For convenience, the connection diagram of the single-phase meter model Mercury 201 is duplicated on the inside of the terminal cover. If the device is connected correctly, the red indicator light on it lights up.

Before closing the cover it is necessary to check the correctness of connection, paying attention to the tightness of connections: when tightening the terminals the insulation must not get under the contact. If this happens, it may gradually melt when the meter is under load.

The cover should be screwed tightly to the enclosure, leaving no gaps.

The disadvantage of the device design is the difficulty to visually check the seal, because it is located under the cover of the terminal block. There are also difficulties in using sticker seals. There are several display options for the Mercury 201 meter, depending on the design of the device. There are more displays on the LCD screen and they are more informative. In addition to the data on the used electricity, the date, current and voltage values, and operating time since commissioning are displayed.

Before taking readings with the Mercury 201 with drum-type counting system, you should remember that only whole data are taken from the power supply company. There are 6 drums on the device, 5 of which show whole values (they are black and located on the left) and 1 - tenths (it is black and located on the extreme right). This is done for visual convenience when taking readings.

Verification of the instrument is performed at the factory immediately after assembly. The fact of verification is noted in the passport and on the seal. The next period of verification of the meter model Mercury 201 - after 16 years.
